What Happens To Losing Team's Super Bowl Merch?
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Ever wondered what happens to all the losing team's merchandise that was printed for the Super Bowl?
Well, the league used to destroy all of the merchandise produced for the Super Bowl loser, but for the past 15 years the NFL has had an agreement with an international aid group, World Vision. The only stipulation the league has with World Vision is that the merchandise is not distributed in the United States.
For example, the San Francisco 49ers gear from the year the Ravens won the Super Bowl went to countries like Zambia, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Armenia and Romania. In 2011, after the New Orleans Saints defeated Indianapolis, the Colts gear was sent to earthquake-ravaged Haiti.
But recently, the job of determining what happens to an estimated 100,000 pieces of unsellable Super Bowl clothing belongs to Good360, a charity that specializes in delivering unused corporate products to those in need.
It's too early to say where this year's Panthers merchandise will end up, but according to Good360 Chief Marketing Officer Shari Rudolph, details about the products available for donation will be sent to Good360 in about a week.
