AMC CEO Says He's Open to Making Theaters 'Texting Friendly'

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The man who became CEO of AMC Entertainment in January, Adam Aron, tells Variety magazine that he may be open to allowing texting in his movie theaters.

According to CBS News, AMC became the world's largest movie theater chain when it acquired the Carmike Cinemas chain last month.

In an interview this week, Aron told Variety that, in order to cater to younger customers, he is open to allowing cell phone use in the auditoriums.

"When you tell a 22-year-old to turn off the phone, don't ruin the movie, they hear please cut off your left arm above the elbow," he said.

But he also said the company will have to work out a way to establish the new protocol in such a way that it doesn't disturb other audience members, such as creating a texting "section" or designating certain auditoriums to be phone-friendly.
