Police ID Solider In Barricade Incident On Md. National Guard Property

BALTIMORE (WJZ) --A soldier is now charged following Monday's barricade incident on the Maryland National Guard property.

Baltimore County police responded around 11:00 a.m. to an active barricade situation on the property of the Maryland National Guard located in the 10900 block of Notchcliff Road in Glen Arm.

Authorities say 43-year-old Charles J. Muchanic, of Virginia, barricaded himself in the building near the Armory of the National Guard property.

"The alarm went off in the building that houses the armory and the Army personnel saw a male subject inside that building and they called for us," said Elisa Armacost, a spokesperson for the Baltimore County Police Department. "This man does not have access to the National Guard Armory, that is a secure vault, that's protected by a code" officials said. "He does not have that code."

Police fire and scores of law enforcement surrounded the area as negotiators worked to resolve the situation.

As a precaution police shut down the road leading up the National Guard office. Those who live nearby tell WJZ were concerned with the amount cop cars in their quiet neighborhood.

Just after 2:30 p.m. Monday Baltimore County Police announced that Muchanic was brought into custody unarmed.

He was taken for an emergency psychiatric evaluation.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation.

Police say Muchanic is charged with one count of trespass. He was released from the Baltimroe County Dentention Center on $7,500 bond.

No one was injured in this incident.
