Trumbo, Jones Lead Orioles To 12-7 Win Over Red Sox
Baltimore (WJZ) -- Mark Trumbo and Adam Jones launch two home-runs, Manny Machado breaks a seventh-inning tie, and the Baltimore Orioles defeat the Boston Red Sox 12-7 on Thursday night.
The Baltimore Orioles scored 13 runs without hitting a single home-run against the Red Sox on Wednesday. They wouldn't have nearly the same problem in this game as they would send 7 balls to the stands for 12 runs.
Ubaldo Jimenez and Rick Porcello were stuck in an old-fashioned pitchers duel prior to the 4th inning when Mark Trumbo would strike first. He hit a homer to left field and gave Baltimore a 2-0 lead.
Adam Jones would follow-up in the 5th with his 6th home run of the year and extend Baltimore's lead to 4-0.
Ubaldo pitched 5 strong innings whilst allowing only one hit. But the 6th inning was far from kind for Jimenez as he allowed 5 earned runs. With two on, Xander Bogaerts singled to deep center to cut the Orioles lead in half. Then a few pitches later, David Ortiz sent a bomb to right to give Boston the 5-4 advantage.
That's when the Orioles went to work.
Trumbo tied the game with a solo shot to deep center. The following inning, Manny Machado would hit a three-run bomb to left to give Baltimore an 8-5 lead in the 7th inning.
In the 8th inning, Pedro Alvarez hit a solo shot to increase the lead. Francisco Pena launched his first major league home-run to increase the lead by two more runs. Adam Jones would hit another home-run off of Noe Ramirez to cap things off and give Baltimore the insurmountable 12-5 lead.
Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaers would both single in the top of the 9th to drive in one run a piece before David Ortiz's fly out ended the game.
The Baltimore Orioles will begin their series with the New York Yankees on Friday as Chris Tillman (7-1 2.92 ERA) goes up against Nathan Eovaldi (6.2 3.71 ERA).
