Panel On Modernizing Maryland Procurement Process to Meet

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A panel reviewing Maryland's process for awarding state contracts is scheduled to meet.

The Commission to Modernize State Procurement is set to meet Wednesday in Annapolis. The commission is chaired by Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford.

The bipartisan panel was created by Gov. Larry Hogan in February.

It is reviewing all aspects of the state's procurement process.

That includes looking at standardizing procurement provisions across all state agencies. It's also examining ways to reduce costs by using new technology and developing a statewide manual to be used by all agencies for awarding contracts. It's also looking at ways to make the process easier for businesses to understand and respond.

The Maryland Board of Public Works oversees about $4 billion in contracts and modifications annually.
