Sears, Rebuilding Together Baltimore Do Massive Repairs on Veteran's Home

DUNDALK, Md. (WJZ) -- Local organizations have teamed up to give a Baltimore County veteran a home worthy of his service.

Charles Faison has been living in the same house since the 1960s. The wear and tear is obvious. So two groups of volunteers are working hard to repair it.

The to-do list is long. The sun is unforgiving. But that's not stopping them.

"This is a very small way that we are thanking him," said Brian Hanover, a spokesman for Sears.

Sears is supplying the funds and nearly two dozen of its employees, and joining forces with Rebuilding Together Baltimore, a non-profit that provides repairs to low-income homeowners in Baltimore city and county.

Faison, who's 74, served in the Army, the Reserves and worked for decades at General Motors.

Though he's traveled far, his house in Dundalk has been his home for more than 50 years.

"It's great to see that all the repairs he definitely needed are being done," said his daughter Michelle Faison.

The house needs so many repairs, in fact, that it's become unsafe.

"We want to be able to keep the community stable and keep the long-term homeowners here," said Bonnie Bessor, Rebuilding Together Baltimore's executive director.

"To see complete strangers help me, it makes me feel very good," Faison said. "I raised three kids in this house... it just means a lot to me."

The renovations are set to be completed by the end of the summer.
