WJZ Speaks With Man Who Helped To Rescue Woman In Ellicott City
ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WJZ) -- A community is working to clean up following this weekend's deadly flooding in Ellicott City.
A group of good Samaritans worked together to save lives as rain fell and water rushed through the streets.
WJZ's Jessica Kartalija spoke with a young man who helped to rescue a woman from her car.
Friends J.T. Beatty and Michael Parkent were out for a fun night in Ellicott City when things turned tragic.
"Suddenly it just kept going, kept getting worse and just flooding everywhere. It happened in a flash," said Beatty.
J.T. became part of a human chain.
Kartalija: "You're part of this human chain. We've seen the video, it's incredible. What is going through your head?"
Beatty: "Somebody came down, they're stuck in the cars... not much, really. No one really talked, no one really said anything... we just did it."
Kartalija: "When you see the video, are you shocked? It's scary."
Beatty: "It is, yeah. It's just like, I was fortunate. I watched it and think I was very fortunate."

Michael ended up at the bottom of Main Street, managing to climb to safety onto the railroad bridge.
Kartalija: "You're standing... describe to me what we're seeing in that video."
Parkent: "What you don't understand is this bridge was shaking. One part was already collapsed. It was already dangerous enough being up there. The worst part was this car underneath. And at one point, other witnesses said they saw the door open, someone trying to get out."
Kartalija: "When you see this today, and you look back at the video that you saw, what goes through your head?"
Parkent: "Just seeing it at night when it's all happening is one thing, but seeing the devastation... everything it leaves behind... I mean, the sediment all over the road, what's left of the road, the road torn up and everything... I could never imagine it would be like this."
