Police: Tractor Trailer Driver Went Miles in Wrong Way

SACO, Maine (AP) — State police in Maine charged a Virginia tractor-trailer driver with driving to endanger after he drove the wrong way on the Maine Turnpike for several miles.

Police say they received phone calls from drivers Monday night alerting them that the big rig was traveling in the wrong direction without lights. Troopers stopped the truck in Saco after it collided with the rear of a cruiser.

Police charged 49-year-old Michael Crews of Hurt, Virginia. He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Police say the trailer portion of the truck was empty at the time of the incident. They say there were no injuries to the troopers who responded to the incident and minor damage to the cruiser.

It was unclear on Tuesday if Crews had an attorney.
