Police: Man Breaks Into Cumberland Home, Assaults 2 People

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) — Cumberland police say a man was arrested after he broke into a home and assaulted both a woman and a man inside.

The break-in occurred on Saturday. Police say they had to temporarily detain several people at the scene while they investigated what had happened.

Police say one of those people, 24-year-old Brandon Simpson of Cumberland, struggled with officers before he was arrested.

Police say investigators determined that Simpson had broken into the home. Police say he punched and choked a woman at the door before fighting with a man inside. The woman and Simpson were both taken to a hospital for treatment.

Simpson faces charges including burglary and assault and is being held on $250,000 bond. No attorney was listed for him in court records.
