Student Who Pricked Classmates At Fallston High To Be Charged As A Juvenile

FALLSTON, Md. (WJZ) -- Harford County Sherriff's Office says that the Fallston High School student who pricked several of his classmates with a Lancet on Thursday will be charged as a juvenile.

Harford County Sherriff's Office says the 15-year-old will be referred to Maryland Department of Juvenile Services.

Harford County Sherriff's Office says they've identified 23 classmates as victims from within Fallston High School. The teen was reportedly charged with 1 count of disrupting school operations, and 23 counts each of 2nd degree assault and reckless endangerment.

Authorities will not be releasing the teens' name or any identifying information because he is charged as a juvenile.

The incident is raising concern, with affected students being told to go and get checked out. The weapon in question is a small needle used to prick skin to draw blood for testing, particularly blood-sugar levels for people with diabetes.

"I was bleeding a little bit. Not a lot," said Fallston High School student Jonathan Schiller. "I'm worried, to say the least."

The Harford County Sheriff's Office says Schiller is now one of 23 students who were randomly stuck by their fellow 15-year-old classmate at school with a blood lancet.

Students tell WJZ their 15-year-old classmate claimed the device belonged to his diabetic grandfather.

One student told WJZ school officials are taking the matter very seriously.

"All administration was called after school for a meeting," she said.

As far as the reason... "We believe, at this point, he thought it was humorous," said Major Jack Simpson, Harford County Sheriff's Office.

But for Schiller and his family, it's far from a laughing matter.

"He really just kind of laughed, and I don't think he really understood what he was doing at the time," said Schiller.

The Harford County Sheriff's Office tells WJZ the criminal case will be handed over to the State's Attorney's Office.
