BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Baltimore County Fire Department crews fought a two alarm building fire on Pulaski Highway Wednesday.
The tire shop started burning just before 12 p.m.
A portion of the road was shut down in the 8200 block, near Batavia Farms Road in Rosedale.
“When it first started it just looked like dirt was rolling around and then they opened the door and smoke rolled out,” says witness Jerry Zellner.
Nearly 150 fighters poured water into the burning structure in an industrial area.
“They went into initially to attack the fire. They put out a good bit of the fire and began to look for further fire in the fire actually ended up growing,” says Lt. Tim Rostkowski of the Baltimore County Fire Department.
People in the area tell WJZ, at least four people work in the tire shop. Fire officials say everyone made it out safely. No civilians were hurt but one fire fighter was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion.
“With tire shops like these they’re typically many, many, many different types of tires inside and there are a lot of them. So when they tend to catch on fire they tend to burn very quickly and very hot,” says Rostkowski.
Lanes have reopened.
