BALTIMORE (WJZ) — The Kentucky Derby is one of the biggest events in horse racing each year. But it’s grown to be about much more than just the action on the track.

Over 170,000 people attended the 2015 Kentucky Derby, a track record. The Classic Drink The Mint Julep has been the traditional beverage at the Derby for nearly a century.

According to Churchill Downs racetrack, almost 120,000 Mint Juleps are served during Kentucky Derby weekend.

The track even offers a $1,000 version of the cocktail, known as the “Woodford Reserve Mint Julep”!
