Ex-Maryland School Aide Gets 75 Years In Child Porn Case

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A former Maryland elementary school volunteer who pleaded guilty to 15 federal child pornography offenses has been sentenced to 75 years in prison.

Deonte Carraway worked at an elementary school in Prince George's County. That's where several of his victims attended school. He's been behind bars since his arrest in February 2016.

The case was investigated by the FBI Maryland Child Exploitation Task Force that was created seven years ago to combat sex crimes involving children.

"This is a horrendous case, involving despicable conduct," one official said.

On Monday, the 23-year-old was sentenced to 75 years in prison, followed by a lifetime of supervised release for 15 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor to produce child pornography. These charges involved 12 minor victims, ranging in age from nine to 13 years old.

He was an assistant at Judge Sylvania W. Woods Elementary School in Prince George's County.

"Deonte will spend the rest of his life in jail for the crimes he committed against the children here," said Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks. "The next thing we have to do, is everything in our power to make sure there is no other Deonte Carraway who is allowed to have access to children in a schoolhouse who can assault and injure them."

According to the 15 count superseding indictment, Carraway coerced and persuaded multiple children to engage in sexually explicit conduct in order to produce videos.

According to the plea agreement, the videos produced include Carraway engaging in sexual activity with victims, as well as the victims engaging in sexually explicit conduct at Carraway's direction.

Carraway met several of the victims at the school where he worked, and other victims reported that Carraway recruited them from his choir group.

Carraway also faces local charges in Prince George's County Circuit Court, where a grand jury indicted him on 270 counts of sex abuse and other related charges.
