The holidays are a great time to adopt a new animal companion for the family, and the greater Baltimore area offers many opportunities to find the perfect pet. There are many organizations that save, protect, and look for forever homes for displaced pets. Each event uses an adoption application, some discount adoption fees, and others offer discounts on pet related products. All help prospective pet owners connect with the right companion animal.

The PetValu adoption event is happening Nov. 25th in Baltimore. The event features many amazing dogs that are looking for forever homes. The event will consist of adoption opportunities, and PetValu offers products to bring in a new family member. The adoption application can be filled out prior to the event. Early submission of the adoption application means that the dog companion may be able to come to his/her new home the same day. The event is staffed with volunteers that are knowledgeable about the dogs, dog ownership, and other adoption events. This event runs until 2 p.m.

The Home "Fur" the Holidays event is sponsored by the Maryland SPCA. The event offers adult cats and large adult dogs for adoption without an adoption fee. Adult cats are usually $55, and large adult dogs are usually $125. The $17 fee for the pet ID package and all adoption process fees still apply. Pets available for this event will be the animals currently at the facility during the time of the event. The event runs Dec. 18 through Dec. 21, during the hours of 9 a.m. to closing.

All For Holiday Homes is a pet adoption event put together by the Petco Foundation, and is being held at the York Road Petco. This is a national pet adoption week event held by Petco stores. Each store has a different variety of pets, and adoption opportunities. This event runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Each adoption is accompanied by a coupon book filled with discounts for new pet owners.

The Lucky Dog adoption event is being held at Bark! in Silver Spring. Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is a non-profit animal rescue that works with finding "forever" homes for dogs and cats. It is a volunteer-run center that plays a role in educating pet owners, rescuing pets, and works to help keep the pet population under control. They have rescued and adopted out more than 3,000 pets this year. For this event, they have partnered with Bark!, an ecologically-conscious pet store. They focus on products that are ecologically sustainable, nutritious, and help bonding between humans and their animal companions. This event starts at noon on Dec. 2, and is free. There is a pet adoption fee, which goes to help support the mission and rescue of pets by Lucky Dog Animal Rescue.
