BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Baltimore drivers aren’t just bad- they’re actually the worst, according to a new study by Allstate Insurance.

Researchers looked at 200 cities and based the rankings on things including accident claims and how often drivers slam on their brakes.

Baltimore fell one slot from its ranking last year, so this year, Baltimore comes in at #200.

The city has consistently ranked among Allstate’s bottom 10 cities for safe drivers over the last decade.

To some drivers in Baltimore, it comes as no surprise.

“I’ve seen a lot of distracted driving on the roads,” said Baltimore driver, Dana Digennaro.

Digennaro is not shy about admitting her possible contribution to the cause.

According to Allstate, Baltimore drivers see about four years between accident claims. The national average is 10 years between claims.

Charm City is above the national average here too.

Still, some drivers are skeptical of the data.

“If you go to Boston, Massachusetts they are much worse,” said Baltimore driver Alex Blum.

They’re on the list too. Boston replaced Baltimore at 199.

“A lot of aggressive driving and a lot of bad driving,” Bruce Harrison, another driver, said.

Harrison has reason to believe driving could be better.

“I’ve been hit by two cars, one running a red light,” Harrison said.

With a busy Labor Day around the corner, including beach travel, the start of the Terps football season and the funeral of the later Sen. John McCain.

Maryland State Highway Administration officials are urging drivers elsewhere to be mindful.

“Don’t be in a hurry or aggressive behind the wheel. We are doing everything we can on the roads we maintain, the state number of routes to make sure we reduce congestion, improve safety, that type of thing,” said Charlie Gischlar with the MDOT SHA.

Brownsville, Texas, Kansas City and Boise topped the list for best drivers.

Have to agree that Boston is worse. In Boston driving is a “no quarter asked or given” activity.

  2. I live near Portland Maine and although it’s not listed, it’s worse than Baltimore. A lot of rude drivers. Baltimore is not too bad, better than Boston and DC. Here’s the list: https://www.allstate.com/tools-and-resources/americas-best-drivers.aspx

  3. Bonnie Fox says:

So true! Especially around Pikesville and the DC cesspool – more used to driving donkey carts than cars.

I saw a minority woman on I-95 near DC come to a FULL STOP in the fast lane trying to turn right onto an exit ramp. UNREAL. Huge backup behind her at rush hour.

    1. same thing here. A “minority” woman was in the far left lane of the interstate. 4 lanes over was her exit, so she just stopped.

  4. Can’t beat the drivers in Tucson; all drugged, drunk or blonde.

  5. Ed Smith says:

I am from Philadelphia, not a city known for good drivers but I now live in South Carolina and tie vote for our drivers in SC and those in Atlanta as the worst ever.

  6. Ken Price says:

On the west coast, Frisco drivers are brain dead morons.

  7. Dave Sacramento says:

Why not just come out and say it? Baltimore has got a lot more problems than bad drivers on the road.

  8. Charles Martel says:

The indigenous population of Baltimore sees traffic signals as a mere suggestion. I routinely wait at least two full seconds when proceeding on green and still look both ways. Cops won’t do anything after the idiot State’s Attorney prosecuted Baltimore 6 for doing their jobs.

  9. Mecotor Pepotore says:

Bad drivers, high crime, drugs, poverty and run by Democrats. Can you say anything positive about that city?

  10. Steve Hansen says:

Just another reason why Baltimore is the most miserable city in the U.S.

  11. Chris Kramer says:

The entire state of New Mexico is notorious for their bad drivers. Surrounding states all know this. The joke: NM has a special license plate for their incompetent drivers, they’re yellow. (Yellow is the standard color for NM license plates).

I’ve driven everywhere, NM is definitely the worst.

  12. People say there is a RACE problem. People say this RACE problem will be solved when the third world pours into EVERY and ONLY into White countries.

People say the only solution to the RACE problem is if ALL and ONLY White countries “assimilate,” i.e., intermarry, with all those non-Whites.

But if I tell that obvious truth about the ongoing program of genocide against White people, Anti-Whites agree that I am a naziwhowantstokillsixmillionjews.

    Anti-racist is a codeword for anti-White.

  13. Joe Schmoes says:

Anyone else find this odd as to who was interviewed for this story? Hmmmmmmmm
    Baltimore demographics:
    2010 census population (rank): 620,961 (21); Male: 292,249 (46.6%); Female: 328,712 (52.9%); White: 183,830 (29.6%); Black: 395,781 (63.7%); American Indian and Alaska Native: 2,270 (0.4%); Asian: 14,548 (2.3%); Other race: 11,303 (1.9%); Two or more races: 12,955 (2.1%); Hispanic/Latino: 25,960 (4.2%).

  14. Troy Dynes says:

It’s difficult to drive when your dodging bullets.

  15. Jimmy Michaels says:

MORE FAKE NEWS! There is no possible way they can be worse drivers than the illegals from south of the border that are given drivers licenses by the Moonbeamer (Jerry Brown) in California. They drive 60 in the fast lane with a landscaping trailer, won’t turn right on a red stop light, on country roads will tailgate you instead of passing even when not another single car on the road (they will pass if you pull COMPLETELY off the road), throw cigarettes out the window like they do in Tijuana, oh, and I will mention again tailgate in hopes of making you go faster, text message their relatives . And now they are driving trucks en masse and the lethal accidents are mounting.

  16. Alan Whitney says:

Amazing! I didn’t think ANY town had worse drivers that Prescott, AZ!
