6 Steps To Protect Yourself From Coronavirus

Here are six steps to protect yourself from coronavirus or COVID-19:

  1. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  2. Don't touch your eyes, nose or mouth, especially with unwashed hands.
  3. Avoid close contact with people who are showing symptoms of illness.
  4. Clean and disinfect touched objects and surfaces.
  5. Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue and properly dispose of the tissue and clean your hands immediately. If you do not have a tissue, sneeze or cough into your elbow.
  6. Stay at home when you are sick.

At this time, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not recommend that people wear a face mask if they are well. Only wear a mask if you are a healthcare professional who may be exposed, or if you are sick yourself.

If you experience the symptoms of COVID-19, seek medical care immediately. Before you go to a doctor's office or emergency room, call ahead and tell them about your symptoms and recent travel. Depending on the severity of your symptoms, your doctor may determine that you do not need to be evaluated.

Avoid contact with others and wear a face mask while you are sick.
