You Can See The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile In Maryland This Week

MARYLAND (WJZ) — An icon is in Maryland.

If you've noticed a giant 27-foot long hot dog on wheels cruising through the state recently, you're not alone. The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile is in Baltimore to brighten your day.

"You don't see this every day on the road, it's one of those things that you've always heard of, and just being able to see it just puts a smile on your face and it makes your day." said Baltimore resident Steve Truant.

And you won't be able to miss it if you see it on the road.

"This is Relishme. Each Wienermobile has their own name," said hotdogger Cameron "Honey Baked Cam" Callanan, hotdogger.

The famous yellow and orange Oscar Mayer Wienermobile will be in the area this week as part of its annual "Coast to Coast Wienie Roast."

"So we are in an 83-year-old hot dog on wheels. It's 27 feet long, it has our mustard stained floor, blue skies, always blue skies in the Wienermobile, even on bad days. We have our bun roof, our shotbun seat, and you always buckle your meatbelts when you're in the Wienermobile," Callanan said.

If you can't picture what this could look like, imagine 60 regular-sized hot dogs lined up in a row.

It all started in 1936.

"Oscar Mayer's nephew, Carl Mayer, tried to bring some light into the Great Depression, to the people of Chicago, so he invented the Wienermobile," Callanan said.

It takes a special reason to drive behind the wheels of the Wienermobile. They're called hotdoggers.

"We hope to brighten up everyone's day, make people smile, let them relive their childhood dreams, or make new dreams," Callanan said.

Fans have the chance to tour inside the Wienermobile, get their perfect photo op and leave with a bit of nostalgia.

On Thursday, people can check out the 27-foot hotdog on wheels, take a few pictures and get a few souvenirs like the famous Wiener Whistles!

The event is from noon to four p.m. at the Walmart on George Clauss Boulevard in Severn.
