BALTIMORE (WJZ) — NFL teams are getting closer to a full reopening of their facilities and in preparation, the league has sent out guidelines and protocols to attempt to ensure the health and safety of players and coaches while the coronavirus pandemic continues to loom. While coaches understand that the protocols are necessary, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh says that some of them are “humanly impossible” to follow.

Speaking in a radio interview on Thursday, Harbaugh said that though he considers the protocols to be difficult to follow, the team will do its best to comply with them.

“I’ve seen all the memos on that, and to be quite honest with you, it’s impossible what they’re asking us to do. Humanly impossible,” Harbaugh said in an interview with 105.7 The Fan. “So, we’re going to do everything we can do. We’re going to space, we’re going to have masks. But, you know, it’s a communication sport. We have to be able to communicate with each other in person. We have to practice.”

Part of the protocols requires physical distancing to be followed in the cafeteria, locker rooms, weight rooms and meeting rooms. While it may be possible to enforce those rules in those spaces, Harbaugh said doing so on the field is more difficult.

“I’m pretty sure the huddle is not going to be 6-feet spaced,” Harbaugh said. “Are guys going to shower one at a time all day? Are guys going to lift weights one at a time all day? These are things the league and the [players’ association] needs to get a handle on and needs to get agreed with some common sense so we can operate in a 13-hour day in training camp that they’re giving us and get our work done”

Though he expressed his frustrations, Harbaugh said that the Ravens will do as good a job as any of following the protocols. Training camp for the team is scheduled for later in July.

if some small business in Baltimore are not allowed to open yet then pro sports should not be allowed to practice or be open again either.

  2. No worries, John. The NFL is dead anyway, crushed under a tsunami of political correctness.

“political correctness” here meaning “try not to be overtly racist.” To be sure, it’s a tough ask for some people.

My Father was killed in WWII in December, 1944 in Leyte, Philippines when I was 3 1/2 years old. He was buried in there and re-buried in the United States in 1949. I still have the 48 star Flag from that service. Don’t ever tell me that these Millionaire Football Players kneeling while the Flag is being raised and the National Anthem is being played has NOTHING to do with the Flag of the United States of America! DO IT ON THEIR OWN TIME! They’re “On The Job”!

Another nail in the NFL coffin.

Covid-19 is a hoax, the biggest scam perpetuated on mankind in modern history: this is all part of the United Nations agenda 2030 and was planned for many years ago.

It really doesn’t matter to me. I quit watching pro football years ago. Pretty silly to pretend you can play football without contact and body fluids going all over the place. It’s insane to have players wearing masks, maintaining 6 ft. spacing all day, then going on the field and smashing into each other… Whoever thought this up is missing a few brain cells.

    Harbaugh is white who cares

Who cares about the boring NFL anyway. I’ll watch Emma’s Fishing.

  8. FedUpWithLibs says:

    New NFL Rules:
Offensive and Defensive lines must line up 3 feet off the line of scrimmage. (6 ft)
Defensive Backs cannot be any closer than 6 feet from a receiver.
Running Backs must be given a 6 foot hole to run through.
Defensive players will be given a rope to lasso an offensive player. Rope must be a minimum of 6 feet long/no longer than 8 feet long.

Its “humanly’, not “humanely” impossible. “In humanely” refers to cruelty or a lack of human sensibilities. These news reporters should know the English language.
