What is a dog run? A dog run is an open space where dogs can run off leash. For those who live in cities, dog runs or dog parks are places where their dogs can run, scamper, and play with other dogs. For those in apartments or living in Baltimore row homes, dog runs are not only a way to exercise your pet, but you can also meet new pet-loving friends. Located in Laurel, Maryland, the Maryland City Dog Park is run by Anne Arundel Recreation and parks. In addition to the dog run, patrons can partake of three baseball fields, 1 multipurpose field, a 1.2-mile paved trail, fishing in the Patuxent River, a playground, and a picnic area with a concession stand. Unique to the Maryland City Dog Park is the Bark Ranger Volunteer Program. Made up of dog owners and nondog owners, the Bark Ranger Volunteer Program, helps protect the rights of all who use Maryland City Dog Park, educates users, and enforces rules, and maintains the grounds of the dog run.

Newly opened, the Patterson Dog Park is located in one of the oldest parks in Baltimore. The Patterson Park is over 300 years old. Patrons can use the following amenities when visiting Patterson Park: the Boat lake, the Pagoda, the marble Fountain, the Pavilions, the Ice Skating Rink, the Swimming Pool, the Virginia Baker Recreation Center, and the Casino. Also located in Patterson Park is the Utz Stadium and the Patterson Park Youth Sports & Education Center.

Paw Point Dog Park is located in the 450-acre Robert E. Lee Park. The Robert E. Lee Park, leased to Baltimore County, is a "multi-faceted facility with numerous trails, nature and environmental programs, a dog park, pavilions, and waterfront activities. Waterfront activities include canoeing and kayaking. The Paw Point Dog park is a "fenced, one acre off leash dog park. Open from 7 a.m. to dusk, the Dog Beach at Downs Park is closed on Tuesdays. Visitors to the Dog Beach At Downs park can also enjoy the following amenities: an Ampitheater, two Basketball Courts, a 5-mile Paved Biking Trail, Gardens, Picnic Areas, Playgrround Area, and the Dog park at Downs Park. Outdoor enthusiasts will love the Cartop Boat Launch, the Pier for Fishing, Kayaking, 5 miles of paved trails, and 1.2 miles of natural, unpaved trails.

Recently included in Baltimore magazine's Best of Baltimore edition, the Locust Point Dog Park is located in the southeast corner of Latrobe Park by the basketball courts. There is parking and access to the Locust Point Dog Park on Andre Street. In order to maintain order, the Locust Point Dog park has a specific set of rules. Every day from 9 to 10 a.m. and 3 to 4 p.m., the Locust Point Dog park is reserved for small dogs and senior dogs.
