Best Ways To Celebrate Rosh Hashanah In Baltimore

Rosh Hashanah is the celebration of the Jewish New Year, which takes place this year between sunset Sunday, Sept. 13 and nightfall on Tuesday, Sept. 15. This holiday occurs 163 days after Passover and coincides with the creation of the world. The word itself means "head of the year"  in the Hebrew language. In the Baltimore area, the community celebrates in a number of ways. Check out some of these top places to celebrate Rosh Hashanah in Baltimore this year.

Beth Am Synagogue, located in close proximity to Druid Hill Park in the Reservoir Hill part of the city, will hold a religious service in observance of the high holy days. The service, Erev Rosh Hashanah, will take place Sunday, Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. There will be additional Rosh Hashanah services Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 14-15, at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Monday's service is Shaharit, and Tuesday's is Shofar.

High holy day services for Chabad will be held at the Owings Mills Jewish Community Center. The center is located at 3506 Gwynnbrook Ave. in the Owings Mills section of Baltimore County, Maryland. Services will be held nightly at 7 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday, Sept. 13-15. A candle lighting ceremony will also take place.

Har Sinai Congregation will hold a one-hour family service beginning at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13. An additional Erev Rosh Hashanah service will be held at 8 p.m. There will also be a morning service at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 14 and a final service on the last morning of Rosh Hashanah from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Also be sure to stop by for the family picnic at 4 p.m. on Sept. 14. Har Sinai Congregation is located in the northwestern section of Baltimore County.

This synagogue, lovingly nicknamed The Downtown Synagogue, will hold candle lighting services beginning with the first night of Rosh Hashana. The service will begin at 7 p.m. Services on Monday, Sept. 14 will be held at 7:59 p.m. On Tuesday, Sept. 15, there will be classes on the Jewish Teachings, beginning at 6:15 pm for all ages.

Congregation Beit Tikvah, located at in the Roland Park community,will hold an Erev Rosh Hashanah service on the first night of the holy days. The service will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13. This service is free and open to the public. In addition, there will be more services at 9:30 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday, September 14-15, 2015. Tickets are available for these two services. All services will last for approximately one hour.
