Winter's First Major Snowstorm Smacks Buffalo, N.Y.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WJZ) Winter's first major snowstorm smacked Buffalo, N.Y. with such force that motorists were stranded on highways all night and much of the day.

Vic Carter reports that some cars still litter the roadway in a mess that some say could have been avoided.

Interstate 90 in suburban Buffalo was a parking lot as cars and buses and trucks were stranded--no one was going anywhere and frustration was high.

Two feet of snow fell there and this is not the first time that this kind of mess has happened. Motorists say someone should have closed the exits, preventing vehicles from entering the roadway. The highway administration admitted it dropped the ball.

Among the stranded was a women's and men's basketball team all on one bus. The coach went for food and returned to the fury of mother nature.

Troopers went car to car and moved stranded motorists to shelters.

As of Thursday night, the rescue efforts continue, and police say it is amazing that no one was injured. The highway remains closed.
