BLOG: Friedgen Closes In Style

It's a great way to go out for the Fridge, with a resounding win over a lesser opponent.  I don't disagree with what Maryland AD Kevin Anderson is doing, but there is something seriously wrong with college sports when a coach goes 9-4, wins his bowl game, is awarded Coach of the Year, and gets canned. Again, I understand why Kevin Anderson is making a change.  He can't bring Friedgen back without giving him a new deal, and if I was the new AD, I wouldn't want to give him a new deal right now.  After the game, one of Ralph's star players, Torrey Smith, announced he is entering the NFL draft this spring, even though he has a year of eligibility left.  Something he said really struck me.  He said he ran it by Friedgen, who said it was okay because Torrey already has his degree.  That's pretty cool that he'd care what his ex-coach thinks, and that it had to do with earning his diploma.  Ralph did it the right way.
