Long Island Defeats Navy 96-86

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Kyle Johnson had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead Long Island over Navy 96-86 on Thursday night.

Five players scored in double figures for the Blackbirds (9-4) as Kenny Onyechi had 15, David Hicks 14, Jason Brickman 13 and Julian Boyd 10.

Long Island shot 54.8 percent from the field in the first half (17 of 31) and led 52-38 at the break.

The Blackbirds trailed 15-13 before outscoring the Midshipmen 15-3 over the next 4:18, and led by no fewer than six the rest of the way. Johnson's free throw, which put Long Island up 28-18 with 9:02 left in the first half, capped the run.

J.J. Avila led the Midshipmen (4-10) with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Sugars added 21 points and Brennan Wyatt had 11 for Navy, which lost its fourth straight.

Navy's first-half total marked the first time in eight halves it scored more than 34 in a 20-minute period.
