SoberRide Offers New Year's Revelers Safe Way Home

WASHINGTON (AP) -- New Year's revelers who enjoy a little too much champagne have an option for a safe ride home.

The Washington Regional Alcohol Program's SoberRide will offer free cab rides from 10 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. on Saturday.

Last year, nearly 700 people took advantage of the service aimed at keeping drunk drivers off the roads.

Residents of the District, Maryland's Montgomery and Prince George's counties and Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William and eastern Loudoun counties in Virginia can call 1-800-200-TAXI for a free ride up to a $30 fare. The service is available to area residents age 21 and older who otherwise may have attempted to drive home after drinking.
