Frederick City Vehicle Strikes Pedestrian

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Police in Frederick say a 19-year-old man is in critical condition after he was hit by a city vehicle while trying to cross West Patrick Street.

Police say a Jeep equipped with a snow plow and owned by the city Parks and Recreation Division hit Eugene Cosgrove shortly after 3 a.m. Monday in the 1000-block of West Patrick, which is also U.S. Route 40.

They say Cosgrove and two other pedestrians were trying to cross the street in the middle of the block.

Police say the pedestrians and the driver of the eastbound city vehicle didn't see each other.

Cosgrove is being treated at the University of Maryland Medical Center's Shock Trauma unit in Baltimore.
