Old Dominion Hangs On To Beat Towson 51-47

TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- Frank Hassell scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Old Dominion past Towson 51-47 in Colonial Athletic Association play on Monday night.

The Monarchs (10-3, 1-1) led 49-47 with 10 seconds to play before Darius James hit two free throws to seal the win for ODU, which has won five of its last six games.

ODU led by 12 with 6:57 left before halftime, but the Tigers (4-8, 0-2) ended the half on a 14-2 run as both teams entered halftime tied at 28.

Towson took its first lead of the game, 30-28, on an Isaiah Philmore jumper with 17:45 remaining and a layup from Josh Brown one minute later extended the Tigers' lead to 32-28.

Philmore scored 16 points to lead Towson and Braxton Dupree added 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Tigers shot just 6 for 23 in the second half (26.1 percent) and were outrebounded 41-23 overall.
