BLOG: Warm Day

What a day! You don't get many 50 degree days in mid/late January. Enjoy it now, because colder air is on the way...in addition to some snow.

The storm from last night got out of here early this morning. Behind it, winds have turned around to the west and picked up slightly. That wind was enough to mix up the atmosphere, allowing some sunshine to return and the warmer air to spread over Maryland. The high at BWI-Marshall did hit 50 degrees this afternoon, which felt almost tropical after where we have been lately. Funny how your perception and standards can adapt. However, cooler air is on the way for the next two days and then a shot of true Arctic air this weekend.

The brief break from storms will continue into tomorrow before the next storm moves our way tomorrow night. Any morning sunshine will give way to clouds with snow holding off until tomorrow night. This will not be a huge storm, but affect us. Some snow will break out Thursday night and continue into Friday morning before this storm gets out of here. We will have more specific details on amounts by tomorrow, but will likely see a small accumulation of a couple inches.

We will dry out this weekend, but that's when the really cold air gets here. Highs will not get out of the 20s Saturday and struggle to 30 degrees Sunday. There is another shot at wintry weather early next week as a new storm moves our way.

A note to all teachers and students out there (or parents who have kids in school):

If you haven't heard yet, we will be doing our annual Weather Field Trip day at Camden Yards on Thursday, May 26th. You can book this through the Orioles. If you are unfamiliar with the event, it is a really fun day starting with a packed weather program featuring the WJZ weather team and some special guests, followed by an afternoon Orioles game. We have had a blast the last three years, and expect this year to be no different. Come join us this year!
