Mount St. Mary's Defeats Quinnipiac 72-63

EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) -- Shawn Atupem had 17 points, six rebounds and six steals as Mount St. Mary's beat Quinnipiac 72-63 on Saturday night.

Atupem's final point gave the senior 1,000 in his career as the Mountaineers (7-14, 5-3 Northeast Conference) won their third consecutive game.

Mount St. Mary's led 52-40 with 10:55 remaining, but the Bobcats (12-7, 4-4) scored the next 10 points, five by Dave Johnson, to get to 52-50.

Atupem scored five points as Mount St. Mary's went on a 7-0 run, but Quinnipiac got within four, 61-57, with 4:16 remaining. Josh Castellanos then hit a 3-pointer with 3:58 left for the Mountaineers, who never led by fewer than five after that.

Castellanos finished with 12 points.

Deontay Twyman scored 16 points for Quinnipiac, Jamee Jackson 13 and James Johnson 11, including his 1,000th career point. The Bobcats shot just 24 percent (6 for 25) in the first half.
