Residents Told To Boil Water After Main Break

LARGO, Md. (AP) -- Public works officials say a boil water advisory remains in effect for about 400,000 customers in Prince George's County following a massive water main break.

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission said early Tuesday that the advisory affects customers who live south of Central Avenue and Route 202. Officials say it will remain in effect until two sets of water samples test negative for contamination. They plan to collect the samples later Tuesday and say it will take at least 18 hours to receive the results.

The water main break early Monday iced over a major commuter highway in Washington's Maryland suburbs, snarling traffic and swamping parked cars.

WSSC General Manager Jerry Johnson says it will be several days before the repairs are completed.
