Crews Clearing Snow, Abandoned Cars From Roads
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Transportation officials in the mid-Atlantic region are working to remove cars and tractor-trailers abandoned by motorists who spent hours trying to make it home during the height of a snowstorm.
U.S. Park Police say almost 100 vehicles were abandoned on the George Washington Memorial Parkway. The Park Police is removing the vehicles and towing them to parking areas along parkway. Vehicle owners are being asked to retrieve their cars after 11 a.m. Thursday.
Maryland State Highway Administration spokeswoman Kim Frum says crews were plowing around abandoned vehicles and getting tow trucks to move them. She says she has heard stories of motorists stuck for hours, and added that plows were stuck in the same backups.
