UMd. Building Cleared Of Smoke In College Park
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -- Students and faculty have returned to class after an engineering labs building was evacuated at the University of Maryland for haze of smoke.
Prince George's County fire department spokesman Mark Brady says firefighters searched the facility for about an hour Thursday afternoon but found no fire. They determined the smoke came from welders working in the building's basement.
Firefighters allowed time for the smoke to clear. Brady says the evacuation ended about 12:45 p.m.
