OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) — The Ocean City Town Council has voted to rebuild the resort’s deteriorating boardwalk with an all-wood deck.

The 5-2 vote on Monday means a two-year, multimillion-dollar renovation project will start this year.

A proposal that was rejected would have added a concrete center lane for trams. But City Engineer Terry McGean says the reconstructed boardwalk will have a concrete substructure.

In a recent online questionnaire, which people in 2,000 cities and more than 25 countries filled out, 51 percent favored keeping an all-wood surface for the boardwalk.

Work is set to begin in the fall, after the high tourist season ends. It’s expected to be finished in 2013.

Will bums be able to sleep under it, or will that remain illegal?

The various towns within O.C. now want to charge a fee to get on the beach a-la -aNew Jersey where everything is private to keep the public , blacks, & no owners away. Shame, America used to be free. A day @ the beach with family & fun in the surf. Now with food, parking, no grilling on the beach it’s a mortgage payment to do that & no fun anymore.

Bernard, you are an idiot. Nobody is proposing charging to go on the beach. Even the Ocean City website touts its “FREE BEACHES”. It is too much of a draw for all of the Jersey, PA and New York people and they will not be doing away with it anytime soon.

I’m still trying to figure out how a beach fee is designed to keep blacks off the beach?!?!?! That said, Wildwood, NJ, one of the closest NJ beaches to MD, is totally free and always has been.
