Orioles' Roberts Out With Back Spasms

SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) -- Baltimore Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Minnesota with back spasms.

Roberts missed most of last season due to a herniated disk in his back, but says that the spasms he first felt a few days ago are unrelated to last season's injury. He said that he might be able to play if this was the regular season.

The second baseman slid headfirst into first base in Monday night's game against New York, and that may have aggravated the condition.

Early in spring training, Roberts, 33, missed three days with a stiff neck. He played in only 59 games last season because the back injury and a concussion.
