Rising Sun To Hold Hearing On Mayor's Conviction

RISING SUN, Md. (AP) -- Rising Sun town commissioners will hold a hearing on a resolution declaring the mayor's office vacant.

Mayor Sandra Didra was found guilty earlier this month in Cecil County Circuit Court on felony charges of theft by scheme and embezzlement. She has not yet been sentenced.

The town charter says officeholders can't have a criminal record other than minor traffic violations and minor misdemeanors punishable by fine only.

Town Administrator Calvin Bonenberger says an official declaration is needed to show the mayor is no longer qualified for the office, and the town's attorney recommended holding the public hearing set for Tuesday night.
