P.G. Council Meets, Johnson Quiet On New Charge
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County Councilwoman Leslie Johnson didn't have much to say to reporters about the new federal conspiracy charge she is facing.
The council met Tuesday for the first time since the charge was filed late last week. Johnson attended the hearing, but refused to answer questions from a group of reporters afterward.
Federal prosecutors filed a criminal information Friday charging Johnson with conspiracy to commit evidence and witness tampering. Johnson is accused of destroying a $100,000 check authorities say was given by a developer to her husband, former County Executive Jack Johnson.
Johnson would have to give up her seat if convicted of a felony.
