Frederick Names New Public Schools Superintendent

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The Frederick County Board of Education has named the chief operating officer of Howard County Public Schools as its new public schools superintendent.

The board unanimously approved the selection of Theresa Alban on Saturday. Jamie Cannon, staff attorney for the school system, says information about Alban's salary and benefits are not yet available because her contract has not been finalized.

Alban has worked with gifted and talented, elementary school and special education students in Baltimore County Public Schools. She has also held administrative positions in Baltimore County and Montgomery County public schools.

Alban takes office July 1, when current Superintendent Linda Burgee retires.
