Orioles Legend Brooks Robinson Discharged From Hospital

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Orioles Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson has been discharged from the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. The 73-year-old legendary baseball player was admitted last month after he developed an infection.

Robinson released this statement on Thursday:

"I wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers and outpouring of compassion and concern during my recent illness.  The doctors, nurses and staff at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center did an outstanding job of caring for me, and I am well on my way to a full recovery.

Connie and I were overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support we received.  The staff at GBMC assembled several books of emails received from around the world, and we have spent countless hours reading your kind words of encouragement.   We wish that we could personally respond to everyone with our gratitude."

As of 4 p.m. Thursday, 530 messages were sent to a special email address that GBMC set up on April 1, getwell@gbmc.org.  The emails were all printed and delivered to Brooks Robinson in several volumes.  Messages came from at least 25 states and from as far away as Australia.
