Contractor Dies At Aberdeen Proving Ground After Explosion, Fire
ABERDEEN, Md. (WJZ)—An Aberdeen Proving Ground contractor employee died Saturday afternoon in an explosion and subsequent fire at a laboratory in the Edgewood area of the installation.
At approximately 3 p.m. Saturday the Aberdeen Proving Ground Fire Department responded to a fire alarm and subsequent 911 call at a Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense laboratory facility.
The fire was quickly extinguished and the area secured.
Although there were other workers working in the building, the contractor is the only casualty.
Reports say this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the work force, the rest of the Proving Ground or the surrounding community.
