WASHINGTON (AP) — A new report is scheduled to be released on Monday that calls on federal officials to help clean up the Anacostia River.

D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Gray and Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton are scheduled to gather on Monday in Washington to announce the report from the advocacy group DC Appleseed, which is a nonprofit group involved in regional public policy.

The report, according to the Washington Post, says the federal government should take a more active role in coordinating the cleanup because it says federal policies are mostly to blame for the pollution.

The report says the river, which includes part of Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties and the District, is tainted with chemicals that endanger fish and that make swimming very dangerous.
