ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Authorities are closing some Anne Arundel County schools due to power outages caused by downed power lines.

Melvin Edwards, a spokesman for the county school district, says five schools will be closed Wednesday. They include: Chesapeake High School, Chesapeake Bay Middle School, Folger McKinsey Elementary School, Bodkin Elementary School and Lake Shore Elementary School.

The schools are expected to re-open on Thursday.

    The outage was due to a serious accident. An individual was traveling too fast on Muontain Road, hit a utility pole on one side of Mountain Road, crossed over the lanes and hit the other pole which created a loud explosion that could be heard several miles away.
