Upper Potomac Advisory Extended Through Weekend

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland Natural Resources Police say boaters and anglers should continue to avoid the upper Potomac River through the weekend because of hazardous water levels.

Natural Resources Police say recent rains have created hazardous river levels from Cumberland to Little Falls. Boating and other recreational uses of the Upper Potomac and its creeks and streams should be avoided through Monday when the advisory will be updated if necessary.

High river levels have already prompted closures in the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park.

Park managers say high water is expected through the weekend, and park users are urged to stay a safe distance from the river.
