Slain Infant's Mother Faces Abuse Charge In Md.

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The mother of a slain infant is behind bars in Frederick, charged with second-degree child abuse.

Jessica Peavy, 20, of Hopatcong, N.J., was being held in lieu of $25,000 bail Wednesday, one day after a bond review in Frederick County Circuit Court.

She is charged in an indictment with failing to protect her 2-month-old daughter Lexi Zirinsky from fatal injuries allegedly inflicted by the girl's father, Jason Zirinsky.

He's awaiting trial on first-degree murder and first-degree child-abuse charges stemming from Lexi's death in November at the family's home in Brunswick, Md.

Peavy appeared in court without a lawyer. She told the judge she was happy to have a bond set.

Her next court date is July 11.

Zirinsky has an evidence-suppression hearing scheduled for June 30.
