Officials Investigating Cause Of House Fire

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say the cause of a fire that destroyed a Capitol Heights, Md., home and injured three people appears to be suspicious.

Prince George's County fire officials say the blaze broke out at a home in the 1400-block of Early Oaks Lane about 4:15 a.m. Tuesday. Authorities say nine people escaped, but a man and a child suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital.

Firefighters battled the blaze for more than an hour. Officials say a firefighter injured his hand and was later treated and released from a local hospital.

Authorities say the single-family home was destroyed. Officials say the cause of the fire appears suspicious, but that they are still investigating exactly how it started.
