Orioles' Guthrie Leaves Start With Strained Back
TORONTO (AP) -- Orioles starter Jeremy Guthrie has left his start against the Toronto Blue Jays with a strained back after allowing one hit and a walk over five shutout innings.
The left-hander threw 64 pitches, 41 of them strikes, and struck out five batters Thursday.
Reliever Jim Johnson entered the game in his place.
Guthrie has been one of the Orioles' most dependable starters during the past few years.
Last season he reached 200 innings for the second consecutive season and tied Brian Matusz for first on the team with 32 starts.
Guthrie and Sidney Ponson are the only Orioles pitchers with multiple 200-plus-inning seasons since 2000.
