Board Orders Dog Destroyed For Hagerstown Sheep Attack

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Washington County's animal control board has ordered a pit bull destroyed for an attack that proved fatal for 14 sheep in Funkstown.

The panel made the ruling Thursday.

Investigators say Isabella was one of two pit bulls that attacked the show animals May 15 on Joseph Frey's farm. His son shot and killed the other dog. Investigators traced Isabella to a nearby home.

Six sheep died in the attack and eight more were destroyed because of the severity of their injuries.

Frey says the six that survived cannot be shown in competition. He estimates his losses at more than $15,000.

Dog owner Kayla Murphy denies that her pet was involved. She has been cited for letting the dogs run loose.

Murphy can appeal the decision to circuit court.
