League Of Women Voters Of Carroll Co. Could Fold

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- The League of Women Voters of Carroll County says it could disband if it doesn't get new members.

League President Karen Donaldson says the group only has five active members, and all of them serve on the organization's board of directors. Donaldson says the group doesn't have enough members to handle the organization's responsibilities, such as attending state and national conferences.

Vice President Carol Blackburn says the organization was first established in the county during the 1960s, but disbanded in 2000 due to lack of membership. Blackburn says the local league started up again in 2006, but has since struggled to retain and recruit members.

The nonpartisan political organization focuses on encouraging people to become politically knowledgeable and active. It sponsored candidate forums during the last town elections.
