BALTIMORE STANDING TOGETHER: Watch town hall Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on WJZ, as leaders address issues the city is facing.

One of my first sports memories was Lorenzo Charles grabbing a Derrick Whittenberg air ball and slamming it home at the buzzer to allow NC State to upset Hakeem Olajuwon and Houston.  Winning a national championship in basketball.  It was a game the experts said NC State had no chance in.  The scene that followed the game is etched in my memory, bedlam on the court.  NC State head coach Jim Valvano looking for someone to hug.  Valvano lost his battle with cancer years ago, and yesterday Charles died in a bus accident.  He was just 47 years old.  This was years before Gary Williams and the Terps finally got to the mountaintop, but even though it wasn’t my team, its something I’ll never forget.  Thanks Lorenzo, RIP
