Md. Culinary School Slated To Lose Accreditation

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A private institution that teaches cooking skills and hospitality management in Baltimore is slated to lose its accreditation this summer.

According to the Baltimore Sun, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education has decided to remove Baltimore International College's accreditation on Aug. 31. It says the school has failed to address concerns first raised in a 2007 review, including a lack of published guidelines for faculty members and an underdeveloped system for measuring educational results.

College President Edgar Schick says the school's board of trustees plans to meet Wednesday to decide how to proceed.

The school could request reconsideration from the commission's executive committee and begin an appeals process.

Baltimore International College enrolled about 475 undergraduate and 20 graduate students in the spring. It has been accredited since 1996.
