Western Md. Tourism Office Makes Bobblehead Pitch

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Washington County tourism officials hope to bring some attention to their area with a bobblehead doll.

The local convention and visitors' bureau will unveil the collectible creation at a news conference Thursday in downtown Hagerstown. Bureau President Tom Riford says officials of the Hagerstown Suns minor-league baseball team will join in the announcement of a bobblehead based on a historically significant figure.

This is the sixth year that the agency has sponsored a bobblehead to be given away at a Suns game. Previous honorees include George Washington, author Nora Roberts, Maryland Symphony Orchestra Director Elizabeth Shulze and Civil War General Abner Doubleday.

Last year's doll was based on a Hessian soldier named Little Heiskell, who is a symbol of the city.
