Carroll Co. Sheriff Assumes More Law Enforcement

 

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- The Sheriff's Office is replacing Maryland State Police as the primary law enforcement agency in Carroll County.

 

The shift happens on Friday. Based on previious years, there will be a 60 percent shift in calls the sheriff's office handles.

 

Sheriff Kenneth Tregoning says his department will also take over the monitoring of the county's sexual offenders and precious metal and pawnbrokers databases.

 

State Police based in Westminster will handle calls on or adjacent to state roads, and state property such as Patapsco Valley State Park.

 

Municipal police departments will continue to to be responsible for incidents within their borders.
